BROOKINGS – Residents in areas affected by the Camelot Square Drainage Improvement project can get an up-to-the minute look at construction status by checking the city website, City Engineer Jackie Lanning announced Friday.
“We encourage people to check the City of Brookings website for updates on this project and other city projects using the following link: www.cityofbrookings.org/index.aspx?NID=221,” Lanning said.
The Camelot Square project, which got under way July 30, includes a long list of activities: improvements to the city storm sewer system; sanitary sewer main extension; water main adjustments; and sanitary and water service adjustments.
The construction will involve excavation; removal of asphalt, curb and gutter, driveway approaches and sidewalk; installation of storm sewers, base course, curb and gutter and concrete driveway approaches; and repair of asphalt surfacing.
Bowes Construction Inc. is general contractor.
The city engineer said construction is continuing along Christine Avenue, north of 15th Street South. The intersection of 15th and Christine is patched with gravel, and it is open to east/west traffic.
Contractors will continue to install box culvert along Christine between 15th Street South and Yorktown Drive during the week of Aug. 20. Portions of Christine Avenue will be closed as the culvert is installed.
Lanning urged residents to drive carefully through the area and to follow the road closure signage. She said the city will provide an update prior to school opening, so the public will be aware of the road closure locations.
“We appreciate the public’s patience during construction of this important project,” she said.
