Construction of Jackrabbit Grove, a complex of four new residence halls in the southeast neighborhood of South Dakota State University, is well under way this summer. The Southwest Hall, shown above, sits southwest of Brown Hall. It will join the Northeast Hall, Southeast Hall and Honors Hall to complete the Grove.

As part of the project, SDSU will expand its student union to hold three new dining sites and additional seating to provide enough meals for the increased number of students on campus.

Jackrabbit Grove will house 800 students; its projected construction cost is $45.7 million. The Union dining expansion will provide 20,000 square feet of new food service space and additional seating capacity for 350 students, plus 8,000 square feet of renovated administrative, activity, and service space. That work will cost $8.3 million. Both facilities are scheduled to open in August 2013.
