Phyllis Mae Nelson - Brookings; Feb. 8, 1940 July 27, 2012

Phyllis Mae Nelson, 72, died Friday, July 27, 2012, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Brookings. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Rude's Funeral Home in Brookings.

Phyllis Mae Osterberg was born Feb. 8, 1940, in Bruce, the daughter of Harry Axle and Irene Geraldine (Pederson) Osterberg. She grew up and attended school in Brookings.

Phyllis married Darrell M. Nelson on Sept. 10, 1960, in Pipestone, Minn. They made their home in Brookings. Phyllis was the caregiver and supporter, taking care of her sons as they grew up and then moving on to taking care of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She enjoyed attending all of the sporting events throughout the years.

She enjoyed going to Disney World and Las Vegas. She enjoyed the time she got to spend at the ocean, walking along the beach.

She is survived by her sons, Troy Nelson of Brookings and Tad (Lynanne) Nelson of Brookings; a sister, Judy (Kenneth) Faber of Brookings; four grandchildren; one great-grandson ; two great-nephews ; sisters-in-law , LaVonne Owens of Brookings and Linda Nelson of Salem; nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Nelson and her niece, Dawn Renae McFarland.
