BROOKINGS – The annual summer ritual of seal coating city streets will get under way in Brookings on Monday, July 30, weather permitting.
Streets and avenues to be sealed include:
• The area south of 20th Street South (Valley View, Esther Heights, Bluegill Additions)
• East of 22nd Avenue (Eastbrook, Sunrise, etc.)
• 22nd Avenue south of 20th Street South
• Orchard Drive from Medary Avenue to 22nd Avenue, and the industrial area around Daktronics
Residents who live on streets scheduled for seal coating should not park anything – including vehicles, trailers, boats and RVs – on their streets from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., until their street has been covered with rock.
The city is also asking residents in the project areas to not water lawns or drain sump pumps onto the streets during seal coating. Streets must be dry in order for the seal coat to adhere.
Drivers are encouraged to drive slowly, be cautious of the equipment, trucks and employees. Bicyclists and motorcyclists should exercise extreme caution when using these streets. It would be best to select alternate routes during this time in order to avoid delays.
The project is scheduled for completion by Aug. 3, but weather or unforeseen circumstances could extend that date.
