Clarence ‘Shorty’ Stroschein - Estelline: Feb. 2, 1927 – June 28, 2012

Clarence “Shorty” Stroschein, 85, of Estelline, died Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Estelline Care Center, in Estelline.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Monday at United Church of Christ in Estelline. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline.

Clarence E. Stroschein was born Feb. 2, 1927, in Deuel County, the son of Ernest and Clara (Timm) Stroschein, their youngest of seven children.

He received his education in rural school in Deuel County. He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952, during the Korean Conflict. After serving in the military, he returned to South Dakota and farmed in Deuel County. He married Shirley M. Branson Feb. 15, 1958, in Estelline.

After their marriage, they continued to farm. Shirley died on Oct. 22, 1997, in Sioux Falls.

Farming and cattle were Shorty’s life, and along with that came John Deere. He dearly loved his only granddaughter, Chrissy, and his great-grandchildren. He enjoyed going downtown for coffee and shaking dice.

He was a big follower of the Minnesota Twins. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Estelline and the American Legion.

He is survived by a son, Kevin Stroschein, of Sioux Falls; a daughter, Kathy (Richard) Anderson of Garretson; a granddaughter; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Propst of Goodwin; two brothers, Marvin (Beverly) Stroschein of Clear Lake and Vernon (Shirley) Stroschein of Estelline; three sisters-in-law, Elaine Stroschein of Clear Lake, Oriska Stroschein, of Estelline and Loraine (Claire) Darger of Sioux Falls; two brothers-in-law, Charlie (Dorothy) Branson of Sioux Falls and Danny Branson of Sioux Falls and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; three brothers, Earl, Leon and Ellis and one step-grandchild, Jon.
