Beating the heat

Hundreds of Brookings area children found a way to beat the heat on Tuesday ­– by spending the afternoon splashing around at the Hillcrest Aquatic Center. Kids had only a short wait for their turn at the center’s waterslides and diving boards yesterday, but lines will likely be longer today, with the high temperature forecast at 91 degrees. Brookings County is just outside a heat advisory issued through today for portions of southeast South Dakota, southern Minnesota, eastern Nebraska and much of Iowa.
