Vivian L. Saathoff, 78, died Friday, June 22, 2012, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Brookings. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings.
Vivian L. Bauman was born June 11, 1934, in Flandreau, the daughter of Nathaniel and Loretta (Hay) Bauman. She attended country school in rural White until the ninth grade. She maried Harold Saathoff on Aug. 20, 1952, in Watertown. After their marriage the couple moved to Brookings. While in Brookings, she worked at various occupations before starting at 3M where she worked for 23 years before she retired.
Some of Vivian’s favorite hobbies and interests included raising horses, Boston terriers, sewing and was excellent at knitting. She enjoyed visiting, especially with friends and family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and involved in some of the church’s women’s circles.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Harold Saathoff of Brookings, a son, Doug Saathoff of Whitewood; a daughter, Sheryl (Russel) Christensen of Volga; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Viola Keller of Lake Preston and Vera (Dean) Schmidt, of Bruce and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister and a brother-in-law.
