Tristian Hokenson, center, and Alex Miley work on their electronic bugs during the Gateway Academy camp at Brookings High School this week, while campers Mariah Gummer and Aspen Myer, back, take a break. Gateway Academy is a weeklong engineering camp for local middle school students, led by Brookings High School engineering teacher Jane Syltie. Another session of the camp will be held next week: One week is sponsored by Daktronics, the other by a grant from the Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR). While last year’s camp was canceled due to low enrollment, both camps were full this summer with a waiting list of 15 students. Students paid just $10 to attend, and received lunch each day.
