A Brandon woman is offering up a diet plan to Brookings residents, and she knows it works.
That's because she's already tried it.
Brenda DeVries' new "Go Figure" weight loss clinic in downtown Brookings offers a proteinbased "ketogenic diet."
DeVries lost 17 pounds in seven weeks on the program, and she said her personal success made her want to share it with others.
"I actually went on the diet myself about a year ago through a clinic in Sioux Falls and was very successful," she said. "( I) kept my weight off and just truly believe in it, and so now I'm selling it." Second clinic
DeVries, who has run a similar clinic in Brandon for 10 months, says her program consists of a structured food plan designed to reprogram the pancreas. The food included in the diet causes the pancreas to adjust to creating lower insulin levels, which helps spur on weight loss.
The "fat burning" diet typically drops 3-5 pounds off women and 5-7 pounds of fat for men on a weekly basis, according to DeVries.
The diet was originally designed for extreme athletes, such as Olympic kickboxers, she said, but can be just as effective for a normal, non-athletic person who would like to lose some weight strictly by diet. It is also excellent for people who have high cholesterol, high blood pressure or diabetes, DeVries said. No-exercise plan
DeVries' diet plan does not require any exercise . The prepackaged diet plan includes 43 different types of food. Dieters have many foods to dinner, and make their own evening meal, using guidelines provided.
DeVries said the provided foods are "very good," and the diet is easy to do.
"It's easy to stick to," she said. "It's a rigid diet, so people know exactly what to eat."
Dieters can go on the diet as long as they would like, depending on how much weight they want to lose, DeVries said.
Once they have completed 90 percent of the scheduled time period, participants are gradually phased back into their own diet routines.
DeVries said that as long as people don't go back into unhealthy eating habits, they will keep the weight off because the pancreas will be reset to produce lower insulin levels.
"They call this diet your last diet," she said.
