The focus will be on the war in Afghanistan during a film and discussion session at the Brookings Public Library Thursday, Oct. 15, beginning at 6:45 p.m.
"Rethink Afghanistan" a 2009 documentary by filmmaker Robert Greenwald, looks at the history and future of military conflict in the country reputed to be one of the strongholds of the Taliban.
It features interviews with politicians, military personnel , and family members of those who have served in Afghanistan. It also includes historical footage of past military action by countries other than the United States. The subject is particularly timely as President Obama and his national security team are considering whether to send more troops to the country. The U.S. has been involved for eight years.
The forum is open to the public at no charge. Brookings groups Dakota Grassroots Democracy, Pax Christi, Stand for Peace and Peaceful Solutions will sponsor the event. For more information contact Michael Feikema at 692-6098 .
