Every dog has its day, goes an old saying. For Brookings area pooches – and their partners – that day was Sunday at the third annual Soggy Doggy Day at the Hillcrest Aquatic Center.
Right, "Zavi," a Cairn terrier, hitches a ride on owner Eric Novotny. It sure beats dog-paddling.
About 250 dogs of all sizes, shapes and breeds took to the water, some more willingly than others, in both the deep and shallow pools. A couple of the bigger dogs demonstrated their temerity by running, leaping and going airborne off the diving board and into the deeper water.
While their people got in for free, a minimum of $5 per pooch – some people gave more – brought in about $2,000 for the Brookings Regional Humane Society.For the complete article see the 08-25-2014 issue.
