A group of 20 young women competed for Teen and Miss titles at the Miss SDSU/Dakota Plains/Brookings Pageant on Sunday at Doner Auditorium, with the top contenders taking home crowns.
Winners and their hometowns include, from left: Elizabeth Pearson of Yankton, Miss Dakota Plains Outstanding Teen 2014; Nina Mesteth, Miss South Dakota Outstanding Teen 2013; Taylor Bird of Madison, Miss Jacks Outstanding Teen 2014; and Kara Trenhaile of Volga, first runner-up.

Each newly crowned titleholder will compete for the state crown in Hot Springs on June 18-21.
Other contestants to claim awards at the Miss pageant this weekend include: Miss SDSU first runner-up, Ruth Latterell of Aberdeen; Miss Brookings first runner-up, Kristy Kayser of Sioux Falls; Miss Dakota Plains first runner-up, Megan Lipp of Rapid City; Miss top interview, Kristy Kayser; Miss top talent, Jamie McKinney; and Miss Congeniality Whitney Byers of White.
Additional awards at the Teen competition went to: Miss Congeniality Ayrika Dempsey of Brookings; top fitness award, Elizabeth Pearson; top interview award and top talent award, Taylor Bird.
