BROOKINGS – The South Dakota State University String Project, a supplemental music instruction program to benefit students in the greater Brookings community, is about to begin its second year of operation.

Valerie Herstatt, the program’s newly appointed master teacher, and SDSU String Project Director John Brawand will provide guidance to undergraduate students who will teach the grade-school children.

For a nominal fee, the 24-week program holds two lessons per week: a 30-minute individual lesson and a 45-minute group lesson. The master teacher, director and SDSU students teach second-grade students how to read music and play their choice of violin, viola or cello.
