Great outdoor adventure – but so far there’s few takers

• Brookings Wildlife camp scholarship spots still unfilled

BROOKINGS – Kids today are curious and concerned about the environment.

And South Dakota kids in particular – many of whose moms and dads are hunters and fishermen – are tuned in to wildlife issues.

So why does the Brookings Wildlife Federation (BWF) have trouble giving away $300 scholarships to the region’s premier summer youth camp?

“It’s true,” says Spencer Vaa, president of the local Wildlife Federation affiliate. “It’s hard for kids and parents today to find time for a week-long summer camp. They’ve got other stuff going on.”
