BROOKINGS – Some 400 high school students will be hanging around the Swiftel Center Friday, April 26, at the annual Engineering Expo sponsored by the South Dakota State University College of Engineering.

In fact, some will literally be hanging around with nowhere to go.

That’s because among the Expo’s events is the Human Wallpaper contest in which teams hope to hold one of their classmates to the wall for 20 minutes using nothing more than duct tape. The team that keeps the heaviest person taped to the wall for the longest time with the least amount of tape is the winner.

“We typically pick one of the lighter ones,” said Nick Van Veldhuizen, who teaches at Netherlands Reformed Christian School, Rock Valley, Iowa. “A lighter person (150 pounds) is easier to get on the wall.”
