BROOKINGS – The public is invited to listen in during a free concert, when the Brookings String Program hosts the Northeast South Dakota Middle School String Festival on Friday, March 22.
Kathy Winghart, orchestra director for Brookings School District, said the festival is an all-day educational musical event that includes middle school string players from Huron, Watertown, Aberdeen and Brookings.
Almost 250 students from the four communities will come together for the annual event.
Two guest conductors are coming to work with the students. This year's guest conductors include Melanie Loy of Worthington, Minn., and Stacy Sip of Sioux Falls.
After rehearsing throughout the day, the festival will host a Grand Concert at 7 p.m. Friday in the Performing Arts Center on the South Dakota State University campus. The concert is free and open to the public.
