BROOKINGS – Brookings area birders have tabulated results of their annual Christmas Bird Count, but the numbers didn’t come without some extra effort this winter.
Nelda Holden says 12 field workers and five bird feeder watchers counted 45 species on count day and three additional species during count week.
“This year we had a little different count, due to the weather. We tried it on Dec. 15 but had to quit at noon due to heavy snowfall. Since we had to be in the field for eight hours, we went out again on Dec. 29 for a half-day."For the complete article see the 01-31-2013 issue.
