Still an excitement

• Musicians tied to Brookings prepare for Monday’s inaugural parade

BROOKINGS – It’s not that they usually perform in obscurity. Rather, the musical careers of Brookings native Ani Berberian and SDSU graduate Fred Ellwein have been marked with the honor earned by working hard, honing their skills and becoming among the best in their profession.

They’ve known the prestige enjoyed by U.S. military bands, and they’ve toured the nation with those bands, performing for presidents and dignitaries and for the average Joe. Ellwein has even participated in two previous presidential inaugural parades.

But there’s still an excitement as they prepare for Monday’s inaugural parade, he as commander of the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, she as clarinetist with the Concert Band of The United States Air Force Band.
