BROOKINGS – The Brookings Chamber Music Society has announced its fall membership and season ticket drive. BCMS is a nonprofit organization that presents concerts and is allied with the South Dakota State University Department of Music.

Each year it presents four concerts at the Performing Arts Center on the SDSU campus featuring a great variety of national and international artists. Performances include not just classical chamber music, but classical crossover stars like Sir James Galway, contemporary sounds and even folk or ethnic music.

This season's lineup features four memorable concerts throughout the year, beginning with the Grammy-nominated Imani Winds on Oct. 30. This all African-American woodwind ensemble based in New York City has played all of the great concert halls in North America and will be touring France, China and Brazil. Its program features classical works plus many contemporary and appealing new compositions.

The Dakota String Quartet will perform with pianist John Walker on Jan. 31, 2013, performing the Shostakovich Piano Quintet and other works for string quartet. The DSQ members are all principal string players in the South Dakota Symphony and Walker is the principal keyboardist for the symphony.

BCMS teams up with Woodbine Productions to bring the legendary Sir James Galway, king of the flute, to the stage on March 26. Known as the supreme interpreter of the classical flute repertoire and for his ability to entertain across all audience boundaries, Galway will be the concert highlight of the year for Brookings.

The BCMS season will conclude on April 5 with a most interesting trumpet and piano duo, Rich and Brandon Ridenour. Both father and son are graduates of the Juilliard School. Rich is a versatile pianist who has built a formidable career performing great piano favorites and ragtime, jazz, and rock ’n’ roll as well. His son, Brandon, has played as a member of the Canadian Brass Dream Team throughout the U.S. As a soloist, he has performed with symphonies and in famous halls all across the country and just recently performed “Penny Lane” alongside Sting and James Taylor for the celebrations of Carnegie Hall's 100th Anniversary.

Season tickets are now on sale at the SDSU Music Office in Lincoln Music Hall on the SDSU campus, and more information can be found on the BCMS website: www.sdstate.edu/mus/chamber.

An adult season ticket is $60 for four concerts, Patron membership is $75, Sustaining Membership for $200 includes four season tickets and Corporate Membership for $500 includes eight season tickets.

Please note that an additional fee may be paid to obtain premium seating for the James Galway concert.
