The South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum and the Brookings Regional Humane Society invite pets and their owners to stop by the Agricultural Heritage Museum to visit – and get photos taken – with Santa Paws on Nov. 20 and Dec. 6.

"The South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum is all about rural life; and animals are a large part of rural life, so it is natural to join up with the Brookings Regional Humane Society to celebrate the animals in our lives," said Carrie Van Buren, curator, South Dakota State Agricultural Heritage Museum.

A sitting fee of $15 will go to the museum and the Brookings Regional Humane Society. The fee provides each pet owner with five to 10 images on a personal CD, which is made available with print rights. CDs can be picked up at the South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum after Dec. 16.

Santa asks that all your pet(s) be on a leash or that small animals be in cages.

"We had good support for last year's Santa Paws event and so enjoyed seeing so many of our furry friends that we are doing it again this year. We're hoping to make this year even bigger and better! The set will be new, so even if you came last year, you'll want to join us again," said Van Buren, adding that all pets are welcome.

Pets' photos will be taken with Santa Paws Nov. 20 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Large animals such as horses, cows, goats and other animals that can tolerate outdoor weather are welcome. Smaller animals can come this day, too. Dec. 6, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. small animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits, snakes, turtles only, please.

For more information, contact Van Buren at 688-4436.

The Brookings Regional Humane Society is not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States.

Another animal-themed event is planned on campus this weekend.

The South Dakota State University Horse Club will host its eighth annual Petting Zoo from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at the SDSU Horse Unit on Medary Avenue.

The Petting Zoo is open to the public.

Educational activities will be provided by the Equine Issues and Leadership Class. There is no cost.

All attendees are encouraged to donate a non-perishable food item for the Brookings County Food Pantry.
