A young child playing with a lighter started a house afire Tuesday morning in Volga. Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said the Volga Fire Department and Brookings County Sheriff's Department were called to 214 E. Seventh St. at 9:33 a.m. Sebring said the fire started in a bedroom on the second level of the home. Apart from smoke and soot damage throughout the house, the majority of the damage occurred in the bedroom where the blaze started. No injuries were reported.
