BROOKINGS – The garage burglar who earlier this week hit several local residences took more than a handgun. The thief or thieves also made off with a stolen vehicle, police say.
On Thursday, Brookings police reported that a burglar apparently used a garage door opener from a car parked outdoors to open a garage. He then stole a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson from a car inside the garage.
That incident occurred in the 1700 block of Eighth Street.
At the time, officers reported there may have been other burglaries in the area. They confirmed that later in the day when they took a report of another garage door opened. For the complete article see the 08-22-2014 issue.
