A 19-year-old Brookings man who lives in the 400 block of Seventh Street appears to have been taken advantage of by a guest in his home. He called in the Brookings police Sunday evening to report a theft of some personal items.
His complaint to the police: Following his guest's departure, he noted that he was missing three packs of cigarettes, five grams of marijuana and a glass pipe.
Total value of the killer weed, cigarettes and pipe was estimated at $125-150.
An Associated Press story describing the incident indicated the young man first told officers that someone “walked into his home” and made off with his stash. That was apparently amended to include a guest, and not surprisingly, Brookings Police Lt. Derrick Powers was able to report that “a suspect has been identified.”
