BROOKINGS – A Brookings patrol officer had to terminate a high-speed pursuit early this morning, but the suspect driver likely won’t escape the long arm of the law.
“We’ve identified the owner of the vehicle he was pursuing,” said Detective Lt. Derrick Powers. “Now we just have to find out who was driving the vehicle and why he or she was trying to get away from us.”
Powers said the incident began about 1:10 a.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of Sixth Street, when the officer attempted to stop a sport utility vehicle for an equipment violation. As he flashed his lights to stop the SUV, the driver instead turned down 13th Avenue and began traveling at a slow speed through the residential area.
