BROOKINGS – We’re getting used to stories about older citizens getting taken by scammers promising lottery jackpots.
But it isn’t always the elderly who fall prey – sometimes younger people learn financial lessons the hard way.
That was the case in Brookings this week when a woman looking for a roommate was conned out of approximately $3,400 in a Craigslist scam.
Lt. Derrick Powers said the woman reported the swindle Wednesday, but the police detective also noted it’s unlikely she will ever recover any of her funds.
