Copper stolen in rural Elkton

• Theft occured between March 22 and April 2

BROOKINGS – Iberdrola Energies, in rural Elkton, is missing 648 pounds of scrap copper. The Brookings County Sheriff's Department says the copper, six spools of 50- to 59-foot cables, was stolen from the company's main building site sometime between March 22 and April 2.

The copper is valued at $1,944. The thief or thieves also cut a roll of fiber-optic cable but left it at the scene; the cutting caused another $50 in damages.
