Downtown light pole toppled

BROOKINGS – A Brookings police officer patroling downtown shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday found a decorative light pole knocked over and lying on the sidewalk in the 500 block of Main Avenue.

Brookings Police Lt. Derrick Powers said the tall pole appeared to have been "pushed or knocked down." He added, "It was not hit by a car. There were no marks on the sidewalk. Someone may have hung on it." Additionally, a trash can was found knocked over in the area.

Damage to the vandalized pole was estimated at $4,000.
