BROOKINGS – A large group of young people got a head start on the weekend Thursday night, but their hearty partying resulted in a visit by the Brookings police and underage drinking citations for about 30 of the guests.
Officers from the Brookings Police Department, assisted by the SDSU University Police, responded to a complaint of a noisy party in the 800 block of Eighth Street.
The call came in shortly after 11 p.m., the reporting party complaining of a large crowd and boisterous people outside the residence. As officers arrived, the partygoers started running from the house, out of both the front and back doors of the home.
One partyer even jumped out of a second-story window into the shrubbery below. Unhurt, the young man was nevertheless cited for underage drinking.
The officers located the four renters of the home and notified them of the complaint, and seeing that drinking was taking place, asked for permission to enter the premises.
Inside, the officers checked IDs of the guests and determined which had been drinking. They issued underage drinking citations to approximately 30 people.
The four renters of home were cited for maintaining a common nuisance.
