A Saturday night fire destroyed a home on Colman’s Main Street.
Nobody was home when the fire started and nobody was injured, but the resident of the house was placed under arrest and sent to the Minnehaha County jail. The name of the homeowner and reason for arrest has not yet been released.
The blaze started around 9 p.m., and firefighters were on the scene for about five hours. The two-story structure was fully engulfed in flames by the time volunteers arrived.
Fire trucks were on the scene within minutes of being dispatched, as there was only one house separating the burning home and the fire hall in Colman.
Crews from Flandreau and Wentworth were called to assist the Colman department.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Division of Criminal Investigation and the Moody County Sheriff’s Office. The house is considered a total loss.
