BROOKINGS – A vehicle reported stolen over the weekend was recovered by the owner even before Brookings police had a chance to look for it.
An owner told police Saturday that someone had taken her car from an apartment complex parking lot in the 2200 block of 22nd Avenue.
The vehicle, a 2006 Dodge Stratus, was taken between 10:30 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
The owner told officers she believed she had locked the doors to the vehicle when she parked it.
The report came into police dispatch about 9 a.m. Saturday, but by 9:40, the car owner called to advise that she had recovered her car at Eighth Street and Ninth Avenue. She said she found the vehicle on the street, unattended. A paint chip appeared to be the only damage, and nothing was missing from the vehicle.
Police have no suspects in the case, but the investigation is ongoing.
