Third driver brings missing vehicle back to scene

BROOKINGS, A late-night, two-vehicle crash near Hillcrest Elementary School on Wednesday resulted in three arrests for driving under the influence.
The drivers of both vehicles involved were arrested. So was a third person who arrived at the crash site in the same car whose earlier driver left the scene.

Crash near Elkton killed Brookings man; Lake Benton man charged

BROOKINGS, A Lake Benton, Minn., man has pleaded not guilty to charges of vehicular homicide and DUI following a September rollover that killed a Brookings man.

Hit-and-run driver takes out fence west of Brookings

BROOKINGS, The Brookings County Sheriff's Department reports that a hit-and-run driver took out a portion of fence just south of Eighth Street South and 469th Avenue on the east side of the road.
The incident took place sometime between 5 p.m. March 3 and 7 a.m. March 4. Damage is estimated at $1,000.

Robert Holman convicted of DUI, vehicular homicide for Nov. 6 crash in Brookings County
BROOKINGS, A Texas man who killed his friend and coworker in a drunk-driving crash in Brookings County last November has been sentenced to five years in prison.
Robert Michael Holman, 34, of Friendswood, Texas, pleaded no contest to DUI and vehicular homicide in Brookings County

Chain saws reported stolen

BROOKINGS, An Arlington resident has reported the theft of three professional grade Stihl chain saws.
According to Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring of the Brookings County Sheriff's Office, the theft was reported on March 2. The chain saws were taken from two bucket trucks parked next to the owner's shop sometime between Feb. 16 and Feb. 24.

Police: Suspect assaults arresting officers

BROOKINGS, A 22-year-old Brookings man is facing a long list of criminal charges after police say he became violent during his arrest for DUI this weekend.
His Saturday morning struggle included being Tased and then assaulting three officers before riding in an ambulance to jail.

Witness: Woman tried to hit man with car

BROOKINGS, A Brookings woman is facing possible assault charges after allegedly trying to run over a man with her car.
Police were called shortly before 10 a.m. Saturday, to a domestic disturbance between a man, 56, and a woman, 34, who lived together in the 500 block of 12th Street South. The man left before officers arrived, and no arrests

The two-vehicle collision happened shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday, at Sixth Street and 22nd Avenue.

BROOKINGS - As the calendar edges closer to April 15, law enforcement agencies are noticing an increase in scam artists using bogus IRS claims to scare money out of unsuspecting citizens.
A couple of cases have been reported to the Brookings County Sheriff's Office according to Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring.
