PD: Man assaults woman, pulls gun

BROOKINGS, Bystanders intervened early Thursday morning when a man assaulted a woman on Main Avenue and pulled a gun, according to Brookings Police.
The incident was reported at 12:10 a.m. Thursday, said Lt. Derrick Powers. A 22-year-old Brookings man was arrested for aggravated assault and transported to the Brookings County Detention Center.

SF man sentenced for robbery

BROOKINGS, An 18-year-old Sioux Falls man has been sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison for taking part in an April robbery and beating on the outskirts of Brookings.
Michael Noland pleaded guilty last month to one count of first-degree robbery. It's a Class 2 felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

Woman injured in accident

VOLGA, Iris Kelly Schwartz, 21, of Volga was taken to the hospital after a one-vehicle accident south of Volga on Thursday, according to the Brookings County Sheriff's Office.
The accident was reported at 2:44 p.m. Thursday and occurred at 465th Avenue, 1.4 miles south of 212 Street, said Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring.

Teen arrested for breaking into vehicles

BROOKINGS, A 14-year-old boy was arrested early Wednesday morning for breaking into vehicles and stealing items, according to Brookings Police.
The report came in at 3:05 a.m. Wednesday.
"We received a call that an individual was seen going through vehicles in the 1300 block of Sawgrass Drive," said Lt. Derrick Powers.

Auditorium door damaged

VOLGA, A door at the Volga City Auditorium was damaged Sunday, according to the Brookings County Sheriff's Office.
"The cost to repair the door and frame is estimated at $1,000," said Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring.

Bond set for man accused of rape

BROOKINGS, Bond will remain at $100,000 cash for an Elkton man accused of raping two girls at his home this summer.
John Waite, Sr., 59, is facing six counts of first-degree rape and two counts of sexual contact with a child under 16. First-degree rape is a Class C felony punishable by up to life in prison for each count,

Local man assaulted on street

BROOKINGS, Brookings Police are looking for information regarding an assault that took place Sunday, according to Lt. Derrick Powers. The victim was able to give police a description of three of his attackers.
The incident was reported shortly before 3:30 a.m. Sunday and occurred in the 700 block of Harvey Dunn.

Park vandalized

BROOKINGS, The bandshell and playground equipment at Pioneer Park were vandalized this weekend, and Brookings Police think it is connected to another incident of vandalism, according to Lt. Derrick Powers.
"The bandshell and playground equipment at Pioneer Park were vandalized by someone who had spray-painted graffiti on the bandshell and playground equipment," Powers said.

Teen arrested for stealing car

BROOKINGS, A teenager was arrested after a car was stolen, then abandoned in the middle of an intersection, according to Brookings Police.
About 10:30 p.m. Monday, the police received a report of a 2008 Chevy Impala, which was taken from the high school parking lot in the 500 block of Elm, said Lt. Derrick Powers.
