Burglaries reported in Aurora

AURORA, One shed and several vehicles were burglarized in Aurora, according to the Brookings County Sheriff's Office.
The vehicle burglaries were reported at 10:42 a.m. Friday in the 300 block of Nicolett Street in Aurora. The vehicles were unlocked, and it is believed they were entered between 2-3 a.m. Friday, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.

Woman injured in rollover

BROOKINGS, A Brookings woman was injured in a rollover accident Sunday, according to the Brookings County Sheriff's Office.
The accident was reported at 10:18 p.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of West 44th Street South in rural Brookings, said Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring.

BROOKINGS, A 35-year-old Brookings man was arrested in an ongoing investigation that included the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the postal inspector, according to the Brookings Police.
The arrest took place Monday afternoon, said Lt. Derrick Powers.

WHITE, A hit and run accident left a vehicle with more than a $1,000 in damage, according to the Brookings County Sheriff's Office.
The incident was reported at 10:30 a.m. Monday and occurred in the 100 block of North Evans Avenue in White, said Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring.

65 years for child rape, sexual contact

BROOKINGS, An Elkton man convicted of raping one girl and having sexual contact with another at his home last summer has been sentenced to 65 years in prison.
Authorities said that John Waite, 59, raped and molested two girls, ages 8 and 9, between June 2 and Aug. 21, 2016. The defendant and the girls were known to one another.

SUV hits bridge on I-29

BROOKINGS, The Brookings Fire Department went out on two calls Saturday, once in the wee hours for an accident on Interstate 29.
The call came at 12:45 a.m. Saturday on I-29 near mile marker 126, for an SUV that had struck a bridge and ended up on its side, said Fire Chief Darrell Hartmann.
