LAKE SINAI, The temperatures may be starting to warm up, but that doesn't mean an unattended ice fishing house won't get some attention from so-called "sportsmen" getting ready for the next cold-weather season.
That's exactly what happened last week at Lake Sinai, when someone carted off an 8-by-12-foot ice shack valued at $3,000.

Not only did he not escape the pursuing police car, he slammed his own vehicle into a tree, and he wound up being treated at the local hospital for his injuries.

BROOKINGS, A vandal cost the City of Brookings more than $5,000 last weekend, when he or she knocked over a downtown lamppost.
An officer on patrol early Saturday found the pole on the ground in the 300 block of Main Ave.

Thief makes off with electronics

BROOKINGS, "Keep those cars locked," says Brookings Police Lt. Derrick Powers, "even if you're away for only a few minutes."
Powers made the warning to local drivers in light of the latest report of theft from a vehicle.
In this case, the theft occurred sometime between 7 a.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of Eighth Avenue.
