CEDAR CITY, Utah The South Dakota State women's cross country team posted a fifth-place finish at The Summit League Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
The defendingchampion Jackrabbits ended up with 124 team points. Southern Utah put three runners in the top-5 and ran away with the team Ashley title, tallying 32 team points. North Dakota State (96 points), Oral Roberts (115) and Oakland (121) took second through fourth, respectively.
SDSU's Ashley Storm earned first-team all-league honors after a fourth-place finish. The senior from Yankton completed the 6,000-meter course in a time of 22 minutes, 32.10 seconds.
Junior Kelsey Aune (East Grand Forks, Minn.) placed 16th in a time of 23:24.30 and senior Nicole Davis (Parker) took 35th in 24:46.40. Seniors Heidi Quail (Volga) and Amanda Frohling (Yankton) took 37th and 38th, respectively, to round out the team scoring. Quail finished in a : . , while Frohling posted a 24:53.10-clocking .
Also competing for SDSU, junior Emily Smith (Yankton) placed 43rd in 25:18.00 and freshman Tera Potts (Sturgis) took 47th with a time of 25 33 10 Southern Utah's
Sharla Manuele won the individual title by nearly 20 seconds with a time of 21:50.00. She was named Championship MVP. The Thunderbirds swept the awards, as Whitney Curtis (11th place, 23:05.40) was Newcomer of the Championship and Eric Houle was named Coach of the Year.
SDSU is back in action at the Fall Finale on Nov. 6 in Collegeville, Minn., before heading to the NCAA Midwest Regional on Nov. 14 in Springfield, Mo.
