RAPID CITY – Eight Bobcats found the podium and Brookings placed seventh in the team standings – its best finish in more than a decade – at the Class A state wrestling tournament on Saturday.

Freshman Jacob Puppe led the way, battling back from Friday’s quarterfinal loss to place third at 106 pounds.

“We could have been in the top five/six if everything went perfect. Enough went right where we were solidly in seventh and close to sixth. We’re very happy with where we ended up,” said Brookings head coach Scott Miller. “We continued to improve as a team and as individuals.”

Aberdeen Central dethroned two-time defending champion Pierre, totaling 177.5 points. The Governors took second at 147.5.
