WATERTOWN – The Brookings Bombers Maroon defeated the Pierre Blue Sox, 18-3, on Saturday to finish pool play at the Class AA Minors State Tournament with an unblemished record, but Rapid City Pony ended Maroon’s season with a 12-2 loss in the semifinals on Sunday.

Rapid City scored single runs in the first and second innings and the Bombers tied the game with two in the top of the third, but Pony pulled away with four in the third, five more in the fourth and a walkoff in the fifth to end the game via the 10-run rule.
Lucas Olson’s double was the only extra-base hit for Maroon. Lucas Abraham, Ryan McMacken, Dominic Dobesh, Riggen Zelinsky and Josh Sell chipped in with singles, but it wasn’t enough as Pony advanced and eventually won the tournament.
Saturday’s Pool-Play Game (Maroon)
Brookings 21, Pierre Blue Sox 3
Maroon didn’t have any problems putting runs on the board in their final pool-play game on Saturday as the Bombers scored four in the first, six in the second and 11 in the third.
Five different players had extra-base hits – Brandon Nelson, Wesley Dixon, Lucas Olson, Jordan Vlaminck and Thomas Conrad – as Brookings pounded out 13 hits in a game shortened by the run rule.
Zelinsky contributed three singles while Conrad and Nelson added base hits, as well.
McMacken, Dobesh and Abraham each chipped in with a single as Olson struck out four Pierre batters in the three-inning game.

Sioux Falls Central 15, Brookings 0
Trevor Kuechenmeister pitched three innings for the Bombers and Carson Klinkhammer singled as Gray ended its season with the loss in pool play.
