BROOKINGS – Three teams went 3-0 in pool play – including the host Bandits – but Mother Nature ultimately ruled the weekend at the Wayne Hauschild Memorial Legion Tournament.

Brookings won three games in a 13-hour span, dropping Holmen (Wis.) 4-1; Lennox 3-0; and Flandreau 9-1 at Bob Shelden Field. Groton and Coon Rapids (Minn.) both picked up a pair of wins Saturday to also move to 3-0 in tourney play.

However, heavy rains overnight forced the cancellation of Sunday’s bracket play due to unplayable field conditions. Among the games that were washed out were semifinal matchups pitting Brookings versus Groton and Spearfish against Coon Rapids. Friday’s evening games were also interrupted by thunderstorms.

Brookings (16-6) plays host to Renner in a nine-inning game on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
