Watertown, O’Gorman, Stevens tied after Day 1

SIOUX FALLS – The Eastern South Dakota Conference champion Watertown Arrows proved they can play with perennial powers Sioux Falls O’Gorman and Rapid City Stevens as the three teams are tied for the team lead with 332 points apiece after Day 1 of the 2013 South Dakota Boys’ State Tennis Tournament.

Lincoln is fourth with 312 points, followed by Pierre (280), Mitchell (236) and Aberdeen Central (212).

Brookings sits in 18th place with 16 points as the Bobcats picked up only one win on the opening day at No. 3 doubles.

Shannon Manson and Jeremy Shaffer teamed to beat the Madison duo of Gabe Richards and Logan Jager, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-2, in the opening round before falling in straight sets to Lincoln’s Dylan Cutler and Arjun Choudhry. They will take on St. Thomas More’s Brady Glissendorf and Nicholas Lust in consolation action today.
