Even though South Dakota State’s head women’s basketball coach Aaron Johnston was adamant heading into the Summit League Tournament that his team hadn’t established any tradition, the Jackrabbits secured their fifth straight berth to the NCAA Women’s Tournament with a conference tournament title.

And although some might consider that a tradition, the only time the Jacks have advanced past the first game was in 2009, when as a No. 7 seed, SDSU took down 10th-seeded Texas Christian, 90-55, before losing to second-seeded Baylor, 60-58, for the right to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.

This year, South Dakota State (25-7) was awarded a 13th seed and will face No. 4 seed South Carolina (24-7) on Saturday at 3:15 p.m. on a neutral floor in Boulder, Colo., at the Coors Event Center – the home of the fifth-seeded Colorado Buffaloes (25-6), who play No. 12 Kansas (18-13) in the late game.

The winners play at 8:30 p.m. on Monday.
