Bison too much for Jacks in second-round win

Posted: Monday, Dec 3rd, 2012

South Dakota State linebacker Ross Shafrath brings down North Dakota State's Zach Vraa after Vraa made a catch during the first quarter of the second-round Football Championship Series playoff game on Saturday at the Fargodome in Fargo, N.D.  SDSU lost 28-3 and finished the season with a 9-4 record. NDSU (11-1) advances to play host to Wofford in a quarterfinal game Saturday at 2 p.m. Shafrath, a senior, recorded a career- and game-high 18 tackles to break the SDSU single-season record with 150 stops on the year.

FARGO, N.D. – Defending national champion and top-seeded North Dakota State took control with 21 points in the second quarter and the Bison had another dominant defensive performance during a 28-3 victory over South Dakota State in the second round of the Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs on Saturday afternoon at the Fargodome.

NDSU held the nation’s leading rusher, Zach Zenner, in check for a second time this season; and Bison quarterback Brock Jensen had a hand in three touchdowns.

“Obviously, a disappointment for a lot of reasons,” said SDSU head coach John Stiegelmeier. “You get measured on one thing in the end and that’s the score – and we fell short. The thing I think I’m tremendously disappointed in is playing without composure at times."
