MITCHELL – Although there were two upsets in Thursday’s first-round matchups at the Class B State Volleyball Tournament at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, both of the underdogs that came through have plenty of state tournament experience.

Arlington, seeded fifth, dropped the first set before roaring back to knock off No. 4 seed Andes Central, 3-1. James Valley Christian took the same road as the Vikings managed just nine points in their first set against Herreid/Selby Area before rallying for a 3-1 win.

The top two seeds had little trouble in their first-round matches as No. 1 Parker cruised to a 3-0 victory over Lyman and second-seeded Warner dominated Timber Lake in the Monarchs’ 3-0 win.
