MINNEAPOLIS – Mariah Clarin scored five straight points to open overtime and South Dakota State outscored Washington State 15-6 in the extra period to pick up a 65-56 victory in the third-place game of the Best Buy Classic on Sunday morning at Williams Arena.
Clarin converted an old-fashioned three-point play to open the scoring in OT and added a pair of free throws to make it 55-50 with 3:35 left. Katie Lingle followed with a jumper to push the lead to seven points.
After the Cougars cut the deficit to five, Ashley Eide sandwiched jumpers around a Gabrielle Boever bucket to make it 63-52 with 48 seconds remaining. The Jacks pushed the lead to a game-high 12 points – 64-52 – on Boever’s charity toss with 37 seconds left.
