BROOKINGS – The Brookings boys and Brandon Valley girls captured Eastern South Dakota Conference cross-country titles on Saturday at Edgebrook Golf Course. The Bobcats, led by junior Addison DeHaven’s top finish, scored 48 points to handily outdistance Pierre (60) and Brandon Valley (63).

The Lynx nipped Aberdeen Central, 58-61, as Golden Eagle senior Hannah Kastigar took medalist honors. Yankton was third with 90 points, followed by Pierre (93) and Brookings (133).

“I felt like everybody stepped it up; every kid – boys and girls – but talking about the boys in general, it was unbelievable,” said Brookings head coach Chris Gruenhagen. “Our top seven really came through – we’ve been telling them that we have potential to be really good and to win an ESD (title) and hopefully, do something at state if our four through seven can run well.
