A’s drop Ravens in finale

AURORA – The A’s spotted Castlewood three runs in the top of the first, but that would be all the Ravens would get on the evening as Aurora rallied for a 10-3 Eastern Dakota League win on Sunday at Aurora Field.

After A’s starting pitcher Curtis Anderson got the lead batter to fly out, Castlewood’s Ryan Neale earned a base and balls and scored on Matt Cadwell’s two-run shot. Andy Turbak followed with a single and scored on Matt Stevenson’s double to right-center field.

Anderson struck out the next two batters to get out of the inning and gave up only two more hits over the next five innings to pick up the win as he finished with eight strikouts and that lone walk.

Mike Holen earned a save with three innings of scoreless relief – as he gave up a single in the seventh and a double in the eighth.

On the offensive side for Aurora, the A’s scored four runs in the bottom of the first; added single runs in the second and third; and then put the game away with two in the fourth and two in the sixth to move their record to 17-10 overall, 15-5 in the EDL.

Doyle Price went 4-for-4 with a solo home run and three singles while Adam Mills chipped in with a double and a triple. Anderson helped his own cause with a pair of base hits and two RBIs as Mike Graybill drove in three runs with a double and single.

The A’s head to Castlewood on Saturday to begin Class A Northeast Region postseason play. Pairings are unavailable at press time.
