NORFOLK, Va. – Caleb Thielbar made an appearance in the Rochester Red Wings’ 11-4 loss to the Norfolk Tides in an International League baseball game Monday night.
The left-hander tossed the fifth inning and allowed two runs on three hits with a walk.
Thielbar’s ERA went from 1.38 to 2.57. He entered the game having allowed just two earned runs in 13 innings for the Minnesota Twins’ Triple-A affiliate.
Norfolk erased an early 2-0 deficit with two runs in the second. The Tides scored five runs in the fourth, and two in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Nate McLouth hit a three-run homer and Brandon Waring added a solo shot in the fourth for Norfolk, which out-hit Rochester 17-10.
Wilkin Ramirez hit a two-run home run for the Red Wings.
Luke French, the first of four Rochester pitchers, took the loss after giving up seven runs on nine hits with a walk in four innings. Kyle Waldrop allowed two runs on four hits in the sixth and Bobby Lanigan threw two innings of one-hit ball to close out the game.
Jake Arrieta earned the win. He allowed three runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in five innings.
Rochester (47-49) and Norfolk (51-46) play again tonight at 6:15 p.m.
