McCook/Miner tops Volga

CANOVA – Shayne Gottlob’s walkoff hit lifted McCook/Miner past Volga, 8-7, in an American Legion baseball game Saturday.

Post 114’s Jordan Nelson singled home a run in the top of the ninth to tie the score at 7-all, before Gottlob stepped up in the bottom of the inning.

Tyson DeGroot led Volga with two hits and two RBIs. Jordan Vanderbush, Jace Goodfellow and Tyler Tofte each had two hits and one RBI. Nelson went the distance on the mound, striking out nine batters while allowing just two earned runs in eight-plus innings.

Post 114 outhit McCook/ Miner 12-10 but committed eight errors in the loss.

Volga plays host to Kingsbury County for a doubleheader tonight at 6 p.m.
