Bullets 16 sweep S.F. East

BROOKINGS – The Brookings Bullets 16 posted a pair of run-rule victories against Sioux Falls East in a VFW baseball doubleheader Monday at Bob Shelden Field.

Brookings won by the scores of 13-3 (5 innings) and 15-5 (6 innings).

The Bullets 16 (5-0) play host to two Pierre teams in a doubleheader today beginning at 2 p.m.



Game 1

• Brookings 13, S.F. East 3 (5 inn.)

The Bullets took control early with a nine-run first inning.

Carter Roach led the 13-hit attack with three singles, while also adding two RBIs.

Cody Shepardson had two doubles and three RBIs. Kyle Krogman and Garrett Gerstner added two hits and one RBI apiece; and Bryce McMacken doubled.

Jordan Lerdal earned the pitching win after allowing three runs – two earned – on six hits, with six strikeouts and three walks, in five innings.

Cason Heier had two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs to pace Sioux Falls East.

Game 2

• Brookings 15, S.F. East 5 (6 inn.)

The Bullets scored five runs in both the second and fifth innings, before completing the sweep with a three-run sixth.

Gerstner hit a two-run home run in the first inning and finished with three RBIs.

Krogman, Roach and Logan Busch each had three of Brookings’ 14 hits. Krogman tripled and had three RBIs; Roach had two RBIs; and Busch notched an RBI double.

Mack Burns added two hits, including a triple; and Jared Tschetter doubled. Shepardson drove in a pair of runs.

Trevor Hornig was credited with the win on the mound, giving up two runs – one earned – on four hits, with seven strikeouts and three walks, over four innings. Sam Schutt tossed the final two frames.

Justin Miller went 3-for-3, including a triple and a double, with two RBIs to pace Sioux Falls East.
