SDSU women’s tennis signs top recruit

BROOKINGS – The South Dakota State women's tennis head coach Michael Engdahl announced the signing of top United Kingdom recruit Ffion Davies.

Davies is from Swansea and is currently ranked No. 1 in 18U Wales, as well as No. 2 in Wales Senior Ladies.

Davies is consistently ranked in the top-30 in the United Kingdom, and ranked as high as No. 15 in UK Open Ladies and is currently ranked No. 71. She has won multiple tournaments, including being a three-time 18U Welsh doubles champion and UK Summer Grand Prix champion.

Davies has represented South Wales in all age groups, including senior ladies, each year during the County Cup.

"We are really excited to welcome Ffion to the Jackrabbit tennis family," Engdahl said. "She is going to bring great tournament experience to our team and I know she is eager to get started in August. There is no doubt in my mind she is going to have a great career both on the court and in the classroom.

“You can tell Ffion is the type of person who has tremendous character and is ready to work hard. She is going to make a great Jackrabbit and make an immediate impact."

The women's tennis team graduated five of its nine roster players from last season.
