'Chutes take two from Post 17

BROOKINGS, Ryan Miley shut down Watertown in the opener and the ‘Chutes rallied to win the nightcap in Junior American Legion baseball action at Bob Shelden Field on Tuesday.
The two wins run Brookings' record to 15-10-1 on the season with a pair of games in Aberdeen today starting at 5 p.m. against the Smitty's.

BROOKINGS, The Bombers Black lost two games to Sioux Falls West on Tuesday at Mickelson Field.
West won the opener, 13-2, and completed the sweep with a 14-6 triumph in the nightcap.

BROOKINGS, The Bandits put up five runs in the opening frame and Garret Jeppesen didn't allow an earned run in seven innings on the mound as Post 74 cruised past Watertown 9-1 in a Legion baseball matchup Monday evening at Bob Shelden Field.

Jansas win SDGA Husband-Wife Championship

DAKOTA DUNES, Ryan and Julie Jansa of Sioux Falls successfully defended their SDGA Husband-Wife Championship title over the weekend at Dakota Dunes Country Club.
The duo shot 74 using the select tee shot format on Saturday and closed with a Modified Chapman score of 72 Sunday for a 2-over-par 146 total and a one-shot win.

Connor Branick named Academic All-American

BROOKINGS, South Dakota State University distance runner Connor Branick was named Friday to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Third Team.
A senior from Sioux Falls, Branick was honored on the Division I squad with a 3.98 grade-point average while majoring in biotechnology. He earned second-team all-Summit League honors in cross country

LOUIS, Seventy-four student-athletes on the South Dakota State University football team, including a league-best eight President's Council Academic Excellence Award recipients, were honored Monday for their work in the classroom as members of the 2015-16 Missouri Valley Football Conference Honor Roll.
The President's Council Academic Excellence Award is the league's highest academic honor and requires a minimum 3.5 cumulative

BROOKINGS, The Bombers Black won two games on Saturday, 11-1 over Luverne and 7-3 over Sioux Falls East, to earn the top seed in their pool and advance to the championship, but Black dropped an 11-8 decision in the 14-year-old title game to the Sioux Falls Cyclones on Sunday at Bob Shelden Field.

BROOKINGS, The Bombers Maroon dropped two games at Erv Huether Field on Saturday to finish with a 1-4 mark in the 13-year-old division of the 2016 Cubby's 14U Wood Bat Tournament.
Brookings fell 8-0 to Watertown and then lost 8-5 to Brandon.
Maroon travels to Aberdeen on Wednesday to face the Smitty's in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

WEBSTER, Curt Anderson picked up a save and a win to spark the Aurora A's to a sweep of Webster in an Eastern Dakota League amateur baseball doubleheader on Saturday.
Aurora won the opener 6-3 in eight innings and held on for a 6-5 win in the nightcap.

YANKTON, The Brookings 12U Black team went 2-1 and took third place in the Yankton Twins Baseball Tournament on Saturday.
Black beat West Central, 4-0; lost to the Mitchell Mustangs, 12-3; and then came back with a 4-2 win over Harrisburg.

Bandits fall to Champlin Park, beat STMA Blue

ST. CLOUD, Minn., The Brookings Bandits bounced back from a 10-0 loss to Champlin Park on Saturday to defeat St. Michael/Albertville Blue, 7-6, on Sunday to finish 3-1 in the St. Cloud Tournament.
The Bandits, 14-5 on the season, play host to Watertown Post 17 in a 6:30 p.m. contest at Bob Shelden Field tonight.

RENNER, The ‘Chutes and the Kings traded a pair of shutouts in Junior American Legion baseball action on Thursday as Renner won the opener, 4-0, before Brookings came back with an 8-0 win in the nightcap.
Brookings, 13-10-1 on the season, plays host to Watertown in a doubleheader that starts at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Bob Shelden Field.
