Three Jacks named preseason All-Americans

Three seniors on the South Dakota State University football team were named preseason All-Americans by College Sporting News.

ESTELLINE -- Estelline shook off a first-set loss in beating 10th-ranked Colman-Egan, 3-1, in a high school volleyball match Tuesday night.
The Lady Redmen won by the scores of 23-25, 25-22, 25-22 and 25-22.

Youngren named Summit League Player of the Week

South Dakota State junior outside hitter Ellyce Youngren garnered the first Summit League Offensive Player of the Week award of the season after leading the Jackrabbits to the Air Force Invitational title and an undefeated opening weekend with victories over Boise State, Air Force and Long.

The Bobcats won Game 1, 7-4, before rallying to win the second tilt by an 8-7 score.

RAPID CITY -- After shaking off some opening night jitters Friday, the Rapid City Stevens volleyball team looked awfully good in dispatching visiting Brookings, 3-0, at Carold Heier Gym.
Stevens took the opening game 25-19 and won Game 2, 25-15, before wrapping things up in Game 3, 25-22.

SIOUX FALLS -- The Brookings boys cross country team opened the season with a victory and the girls placed fifth at the Sioux Falls O'Gorman Invite on Friday.
Freshman Addison DeHaven won the boys' race, as the Bobcats finished with 22 team points. Brandon Valley took second with 34.

MADISON -- Taylor Hauge paced the Sioux Valley cross country team with a third-place finish at the John Collignon Invitational on Friday.
The junior finished the 5K run in a time of 17 minutes, 30.28 seconds.

VOLGA -- In a game played between the 30-yard lines, the Parkston Trojans made the one big play that they needed to spoil Sioux Valley's home opener in Volga on Friday.
