Jacks fall in Summit baseball opener

ROCHESTER, Mich., Western Illinois scored two unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning, knocking off top-seeded South Dakota State, 4-2, in the opening game of the Summit League Baseball Championship.

AUSTIN, Texas, The South Dakota State Track and Field teams had two athletes compete on day one of the NCAA West Preliminary Round.
Brooke Garner competed in the hammer throw, while Trent Lusignan ran in the 10,000-meter run.

Tempo Classic Champions

The Brookings Futbol Club U13/14B won the Tempo Classic in Tea. Brookings dropped its opening game, 3-0, to the 98/00 Tempo Gladiators; before bouncing back win a 6-0 win over the 00/01 Tempo Thunder and a 2-0 victory over the Yankton Rangers. Brookings avenged an earlier loss with a 4-1 win over the 98/00 Tempo Gladiators in the championship game.

SIOUX FALLS, The Bobcat bats were pretty much silent in the Region 2A Tournament here Saturday at Ronken Field.
Brookings managed just four hits in the semifinal game against Sioux Falls Roosevelt. The end result was a 1-0 loss to the top-seeded Rough Riders, which ended the Bobcat season.

SIOUX FALLS, Brookings senior Jeremy Shaffer advanced to the consolation championship in Flight 5 singles during Day 2 of the South Dakota Boys' State Tennis Tournament on Friday.
Shaffer opened with a 10-5 win over Brandon Valley's Cooper Baltzer in a consolation quarterfinal. He then defeated Madison's Gabe Richards, 10-7, in the semifinals.
