• Allegedly involved in ‘garage theft’ burglaries earlier in week
BROOKINGS – The suspect in a burglary-turned-robbery in rural Brookings Friday has been identified as 20-year-old Michael Ramon of Brookings.
Ramon, who was apprehended early Friday evening in Volga, is being held in the Brookings County Detention Center on $50,000 cash bond, according to Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring.
It was a burglary gone wrong that landed Ramon in jail – actually a string of events that law enforcement officials say involved Ramon’s theft of a large quantity of high-powered weapons, the gunpoint assault of a homeowner who showed up during the firearms burglary, the theft of a late-model Nissan Maxima in Brookings – which the suspect smashed into a tree – and the subsequent search for the suspect in both Brookings and Volga. For the complete article see the 08-25-2014 issue.
