Brenda Pitts gets an embroidery machine up and running while Randy Pitts looks on. The husband-and-wife team bought Brookings Custom Image in January. Randy will take more of a role in the business since he retired on Friday.

Longtime parks leader Pitts retiring from Oakwood Lakes

BROOKINGS Following a decision to leave the United States Army, Randy Pitts went to work at Oakwood Lakes State Park in spring 1973. He didn't stay long.

But when the opportunity arose, he came back in 1976 and stayed until his retirement on Friday.

A native of Fulton, Pitts received some of his early education there before the school closed. He then transfered to Alexandria High School, where he graduated in 1966. He attended South Dakota State University, graduating in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in wildlife biology.
