Brookings sisters on school wrestling teams



BROOKINGS When 14-year-old Ronna Heaton and her younger sister Kylee, 13, have a bout of sibling rivalry, they can "take it to the mat" literally.

Both are wrestlers: Ronna, a freshman, in the 106-pound class as a member of the Brookings High School junior varsity team; seventh-grader Kylee, at 126, wrestles for the George S. Mickelson Middle School team.

For the two girls, wrestling has been a family tradition of sorts. Their father, Tim Heaton, the chief of the South Dakota State University Police Department for the past 18 years, is a native of Florida and wrestled in high school there. He was in the heavyweight class.
